Welcome to Hunstanton also known as "Sunny Hunny", a coastal town in the English county of Norfolk. The town is situated on the Norfolk coast and is known for its beautiful beaches and stunning sunsets. The cliffs at Old Hunstanton are a popular spot for walking and admiring the view, and the town is also home to a number of shops, restaurants and cafes.
Hunstanton's history as a coastal resort dates back to 1845 when local landowner Henry Le Strange had the idea of constructing a bathing resort south of the Hunstanton hamlet. The projected resort was given the name "New Hunstanton," while the original village was given the name "Old Hunstanton," to distinguish it from the village (by which it is still known today). The resort in New Hunstanton, which is centred on a distinctive triangular green and slopes down to the sea, was specifically planned by Mr Le Strange. Today, Hunstanton's unique position at the point where the chalk cliffs of North West Norfolk meet the sandy shores of The Wash makes it a popular destination for both locals and visitors alike.
In the Victorian era, the latest craze was bathing resorts, and Hunstanton needed to be connected to the public transportation system to take advantage of this trend. The resort's first building was constructed in 1846, but it wasn't until 1862 that the Great Eastern Counties Railway built a line from King's Lynn to Hunstanton, making the resort immediately accessible to day visitors who could stroll out onto the beach promenade after leaving the station.
The Hunstanton pier, which was built in 1870 and later had a pavilion added in 1890, was an essential component of any Victorian coastal town. This was a typical pleasure pier of the time, although it was unusually lengthy. A small steam train would run up and down to the pavilion, providing amusement for visitors. However, the pier has not been able to withstand the test of time; it was damaged by fire in the 1930s and 1950s and then almost completely destroyed by a storm in 1978.
In the end, the 2002 fire destroyed the pier completely. Now, where the pier used to stand, there is a bowling alley and an amusement arcade also known as Hunstanton Pier - Family Entertainment Centre.
North Norfolk's coast is home to the town of Hunstanton, about half an hour's drive from King's Lynn. The best way to get there and see the sights is by car since it'll let you explore the area more, including Heacham and the Norfolk Coast. Although there are plenty of parking spots around town, they tend to fill up quickly during peak season.
The closest train station to Hunstanton is King's Lynn, and it takes around an hour to get there by bus. There are several buses that run from King's Lynn to Hunstanton on a regular basis, and they pass through a number of communities along the way, including Castle Rising, Sandringham, Snettisham, Heacham and Dersingham. When you're planning your trip, make sure you check the most recent bus timings and travel updates to get the most accurate information.
There are two supermarkets in Hunstanton - a large Tesco and a Sainsburys close to the town centre. This means that you can easily pick up any groceries that you may need during your stay. There are also a number of bakeries, cafes and restaurants in the town centre if you don't want to cook for yourself.

The Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary is a great place to learn about the local seal population and other marine life in the area. There are a number of talks and demonstrations throughout the day, as well as the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the animals.

Old Hunstanton Beach is a beautiful secluded spot which is popular with families and dog walkers. It's located just outside of town so you'll need to drive or take a short bus journey to get there. Once you arrive, you can enjoy walking along the beach, exploring the rock pools or simply relax in this picturesque setting.
Take a Look Around Hunstanton Lighthouse
Hunstanton Lighthouse is an iconic landmark in the town and it's well worth taking a look around. You can learn about the history of the lighthouse and enjoy some stunning views from the top.

Visit the Seal Colony at Blakeney Point
Blakeney Point is a nature reserve located just outside of Hunstanton. It's home to a large seal colony and you can take a boat trip out to see them in their natural habitat. This is a great activity for all the family, especially if you're interested in wildlife and conservation.

Admire Hunstanton Town Hall
Hunstanton's Town Hall is a beautiful grade II listed building which was built in 1885. It's open to the public and you can take a look around the main hall, staircase and council chambers.
There is also an art gallery located within the town hall, which hosts a number of exhibitions throughout the year.
