Norfolk Bell Tents: Those looking to go glamping in tents can have a unique experience with Norfolk Bell Tents. Given that we are situated in Heacham, just a 2-minute walk from the coast, our tents are ideal for those looking for a getaway on the Norfolk Coast. Our bell tents offer a posh glamping experience, but we also give guests the option to take a peaceful, unwinding vacation in the countryside close to the coast. Norfolk is one of the best vacation destinations in the country for people who want to bring their dogs along. Our county is filled to the brim with dog-friendly beaches, miles of hiking trails, and plenty of wooded areas, all of which are perfect for allowing your canine companions to run free without a leash.
You don't want to spend an hour driving just to get to the beach, so it's crucial to find a self catering holiday cottage that allows dogs. Of course, this is something that should be a priority. You have, fortunately, found yourself in the right place.
At Self Catering Norfolk, we understand that your dog is a member of the family, and the last thing you want to do is leave them behind (especially when confronted with those sad puppy dog eyes!). Because of this, many of our accommodations will welcome your furry friends with open arms.
Most of our self-catering holiday homes that allow dogs have fully enclosed gardens, so you can let your dogs run around without worrying about them getting away. Additionally, our chalets are only a two-minute walk from Heacham beach, which is another great advantage.
The sheer look of excitement on your dog's face as they race off across the sand is worth travelling to nearly any location for, but it just so happens that Norfolk is a great place to bring your four-legged friends. It's easy to reach by car or train and has some of the best dog-friendly beaches in the UK.
Heacham South Beach
Heacham South Beach is a seriously easy walk, with a number of lovely dunes. Heacham North Beach is also worth looking at: it's just as nice a beach, but because there's a promenade where dogs need to be under control.
Old Hunstanton Beach
A few miles along this stretch of coastline, you'll find Old Hunstanton, which has a lovely beach with big dunes. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so it's a great place to take them for a walk.
Holme-Next-Sea
If you continue along the coast road past Old Hunstanton, you'll find Holme-Next-Sea, another good spot for walking and exploring the nature reserve here too.
There are a wide variety of activities available on the West Norfolk coastline. Our self catering Norfolk chalets are located just a short distance away from the beach resort of Hunstanton. Golden sand beaches are a hallmark of the seaside resort town of Hunstanton, which is popular for its water sports, such as windsurfing and sailing.
Along the shore of Norfolk's heritage coast and inside the boundaries of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is where the Norfolk Coast Path can be found, stretching from Hunstanton in the west to Cromer in the east.
The North Norfolk Coastal Link will allow walkers to join up disconnected sections of the footpath to create one long continuous trail running over 95 miles (153 km) from Hunstanton in West Norfolk all the way round to Hopton-on-Sea in East Norfolk via Sheringham and Cromer.
A number of stores and cafes can be found along the promenade in the seaside town of Hunstanton, making it an ideal destination to go for a vacation that is more typical of those spent at seaside resorts.
The town also provides a wide range of activities for children, such as a funfair, an arcade, and a number of play parks, all of which are located throughout the town. In addition, there are a number of golf clubs in the surrounding area, including the Hunstanton Golf Club and the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, both of which include a selection of different courses for players to pick from.
In addition to being a popular beach vacation destination, Hunstanton is home to a number of interesting attractions, including the Hunstanton Lighthouse and the Sea Life Sanctuary.
Hunstanton is a quaint village situated just south of Hunstanton. The Bird Observatory was founded on the banks of the award-winning Holme Dunes Nature Reserve back in 1931 and has established itself as an excellent place to study nature, especially birds, with its wide variety of habitats, which make it special for breeding and wintering birds, along with other wildlife such as dragonflies, damselflies, butterflies and wetland mammals, including water voles.
The Observatory offers walks and talks from autumn to late spring; guided tours during the summer months; opportunities for hiding; and a bird ringing scheme. The winter months offer stunning sunrises over the sand dunes to capture on camera when out with your binoculars or simply taking in some fresh air.
Holme Dunes Nature Reserve is managed by Norfolk Wildlife Trust, which is continuing to work hard to ensure its future is safeguarded for generations to come.
This spectacular house and the estate are a must-see. A short drive from Blakeney, you will find this beautiful stately home that has been the seat of the Earls of Leicester for hundreds of years. It was built in the 18th century by Thomas Coke. The magnificent brick facade overlooks a remarkable series of lakes, expanses of pasture and woods dotted with deer and red kites that swoop overhead.
The hall houses an outstanding collection of paintings by some massive names, including Van Dyck and Poussin, whilst inside there is more to explore, including a fascinating museum, gardens, woodlands, and an ice-cream parlour!
Holkham allows visitors to bring their own picnics, so take advantage while making full use of all its facilities.
There are cycles to hire to ride around the many cycle tracks. A small boating lake with boats for children and adults alike. The children's park is great fun with soft sand for children to go wild, and the park now features a High Ropes course for little and big kids!
The Wild Ken Hill rewilding project is working to restore natural ecosystems on the site. The goal is to show how using land can combat climate change, enhance air and water quality, and provide habitat for important wildlife. In an effort to serve as a model for other initiatives across Europe, the Wild Ken Hill team is dedicated to using the site as a living laboratory.
Wildflower meadows, mixed woodlands, and ponds have been created on the 500-acre site. The restoration project has returned rare wildflowers to the area, like early purple orchids, and created a haven for a variety of wildlife, including red kites and goshawks.
During the winter, the Wild Ken Hill team hosts workshops on birdwatching, guided walks and talks on the property.
The project has been praised by a number of environmental organisations, including the Wildlife Trusts, RSPB, and Butterfly Conservation. In 2019, the project won a prestigious award from the European Union for its work in promoting rewilding.

Show Respect For Seashore Creatures
Seashore creatures are fascinating and have found special ways of living in their environment. They have to adapt to survive the rigours of wave-action, exposure and predation. Some have shells for protection, but many need to hide under rocks, seaweed or in the sand.
Exploring The Seashore Is Fun, But Please Remember:
Take Photos, Not Living Animals
If you want to buy a souvenir:
Avoid Disturbing Wildlife
You can see many animals at their best when they are behaving naturally. This is true for animals such as seals, otters and seabirds, as well as rock pool animals. To avoid disturbing wildlife:
Take Your Rubbish Home With You
Beach rubbish is unsightly and can be dangerous to sea creatures. Much of the litter on our shores comes from tourists, shipping, fishing vessels and sewage outfalls. You can help to reduce this problem when visiting the coast:
Watch Where You Go
Beaches and sand dunes are prone to erosion and easily damaged by people and vehicles. To help protect the coast:
Be Careful!
All cliffs are unstable and potentially dangerous, yet they are an impressive sight and from the cliff top it is possible to enjoy a panoramic view of the coastline. Cliffs also provide a very specialised habitat for the plants and animals that live on them.
