Autumn holidays
on the Norfolk Coast

Enjoy an Autumn break in the UK
at one of our Bed & Breakfast rooms

Round out 2023 this Autumn with a beach getaway!

While the hustle and bustle of the summer is coming to a close and the seasons are shifting, Norfolk is still a wonderful place to visit! As the leaves on the trees turn from green to gold, there's still plenty to do at this stretch of the coast. Whether you're looking for walks through beautiful nature parks, attractions that offer a good day out, or towns that provide unique shopping experiences and cosy cafes to escape the October and November chill.

Norfolk is an ideal out-of-season holiday destination, whether you're looking for a midweek excursion with a close friend, a romantic weekend break, or a half term trip with the family! And just because the weather gets chillier and the warm days are few and far between doesn't mean that your staycations can't be fun or awe-inspiring! Because there's no better remedy for a chilly day than spending it in a cosy cottage with scenic views across a kaleidascope of autumnal colours.

A cosy chair, blanket, and a good book by the fire

Warm up by the fire, cuddle up in a blanket, and enjoy an Autumn holiday on the Norfolk coast!

Spend an Autumn Holiday walking across Crunchy Leaves and Sandy Beaches

As the leaves turn, change colours, and scatter across the ground, Norfolk's many walking paths transform into sublime trails with an unparalleled natural beauty. Filled with fresh air, beautiful foliage, and diverse wildlife, these routes take on a whole new life in the closing months of the year, and autumn is the perfect time to walk them. Wrap up warm, put on your hiking boots or wellies, and take a stroll through any number of linear and circular routes in the area!

Sandringham is just one of the gorgeous estates in the area that'll give you a serene path to walk. Visitors can enjoy the expansive grounds surrounding the estate that feature both gorgeous woodland and open fields, making it ideal for people and dogs alike! Trails of varying lengths will take you through falling leaves across a diverse landscape of trees, streams, plants, and more!

Alternatively, you can visit one of the many nature reserves in the area. There's the Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve, a sprawling coastal landscape of, as the name suggests, sand dunes, which is home to numerous different species of birds that make their nesting grounds there. As such, if you do visit, be aware of cordoned-off areas, as these may well be bird nesting zones; be sure to give them a wide berth and keep your dog on a lead if you've brought them! Otherwise, enjoy the unique views of undulating beach, made all the more beautiful by the crisp Autumn air.

migrating birds taking flight in Autumn at RSPB Snettisham

The view of seeing countless birds take flight is unparalleled

Meanwhile, bird watchers will love the nature reserve at RSPB Snettisham where spectacles featuring tens of thousands of feeding and roosting birds happen regularly in the Autumn. These huge scores of migrating birds take flight across the lagoons and salt marshes of the Wash when the tide naturally pushes them off the mudflats.

And, of course, the change in season means that the restrictions on dogs are lifting, giving even more places for you to take your pooch! Beaches at Heacham, Old Hunstanton, Brancaster, Holkham, and more make for incredible destinations that'll give your dog miles of open beach to run free on, especially in the Autumn when you can avoid the summer crowds.

An Autumn getaway in Norfolk's unique towns

Norfolk is home to a wide variety of quaint towns and expansive cities that provide wonderfully unique shopping experiences. You can visit a smaller town and find some lovely independent shops, or go to one of the bigger cities to shop name brands!

Autumn is a great time to visit these shops since they're unspoilt by the summer crowds. In this season, you'll get to visit these places without having to fight through the denser, busier crowds from April to September, which makes wandering around at your own pace that much more enjoyable. You'll have time to explore shops with their own individual charm and personality in towns like Burnham Market, Holt, and Fakenham. Alternatively, you'll find plenty of shops to cater to your individual taste in large towns and cities like King's Lynn or Norwich.

Duck into warm shops and cosy cafes to escape the Autumn showers

Burnham Market offers unique shops for a variety of tastes

While you're out and about on your shopping trip, you'll have a wide selection of cosy cafés, restaurants, and pubs to take shelter from the chilly weather in. Duck in from the elements and warm yourself up with a lovely Pumpkin Spice Latte, Maple Mocha, Gingerbread Hot Chocolate, or whatever your personal choice of hot drink is! Maybe you can even try something new at a small, family-run cafe, before continuing on your shopping excursion.

And, of course, the festive period is right around the corner, and there's no better place for thoughtful, one of a kind gifts than the places you can find along the coast at Norfolk. With a fantastic range of shops that sell everything from toys and gadgets to knick-knacks and clothes, you're bound to find unique gifts for your friends and loved ones that'll make this Christmas just that little bit more special.

Norfolk will stay open for your Autumn Break!

Just because the season has wrapped up doesn't mean that Norfolk's come to a standstill! Outside of the walks, towns, and even the main season, you'll find plenty of entertainment and activities for all ages! Attractions like Holkham Hall, Sandringham Estate, Norfolk Lavender, Houghton Hall, and more are open all year round, providing a healthy dose of culture and a calming day out. Meanwhile, coastal resorts like Hunstanton largely stay open accommodate local visitors where you can find arcades, Sea Life centres, and more to keep the kids entertained.

And the season wouldn't be complete without some Halloween fun come October! The spooky season has something for everyone, with Pumpkin picking and carving activities nearby for the kids on their half-term, and creepier options for adults who have an appetite for fear! You can take part in Norwich Ghost Walks for a spine-chilling tour of the city, or visit PrimEvil, a terrifying horror attraction with a variety of "haunts" that will see you getting scared, followed, and even chased through intense haunted houses.

If scares aren't so much your speed, you can visit for the Christmas events that start at the tail-end of the Autumn season. Events like the Thursford Spectacular, Norfolk Lights Express, Luminate Sandringham, and the Norwich Winter Wonderland all start in mid-to-late November. So, if you just can't contain your excitement for the most wonderful time of the year, you can get warmed up to the Christmas spirit at the closing Autumn months in Norfolk!

    Staying with a big group?

Both mYminibreak and the Norfolk Coast welcomes large groups that want to enjoy a unique getaway to the coast together! Whether you're camping and pitching up your tents next to each other, booking a few of our rooms that are connected, staying in a few of our bell tents, or any mixture of these options, a holiday with a lot of people is best when you can stay close to each other throughout! From here, you can enjoy all manner of group activities, from beach-side relaxation and games to more involved attractions in nearby towns and cities!

Visit Hunstanton Promenade, go kayaking as a group, ride the rides of Rainbow Park, go shopping in local market towns, or stroll down to the beach only a 3 minute walk away! No matter if you've got extensive plans for your retreat to the coast, or if you're just planning to see what's about when you get here, you'll no doubt find plenty to keep you and your group busy! Once you've done exploring for the day, you can return to the site in the evening and unwind from the day together in your chosen accommodation.

    Group Stay Details

Our venue offers a variety of accommodations, including a campsite, glamping options, Bed & Breakfasts, and self-catering cottages. We are only a 3 minute walk from the beach.

When booking multiple options as a group, we will aim to keep your whole group together. On the campsite, this will mean we will put your group in adjacent pitches when allocating space, and in B&B rooms, we will put you in neighbouring rooms dependant on availibility and which properties have already been booked up. Our bell tents and shepherds huts are all next to each other, and those staying in The Old Barn can also book The Churnery, which is connected to The Old Barn via a door.

We welcome all dogs to our campsite but we politely ask that they are kept under control at all times to be respectful of other guests, their pets and the local wildlife. If you would like to bring your dog or dogs to our campsite please choose the option when making your booking online.

Campfires and BBQs are allowed (following site rules).

We are situated in a quiet countryside location, however any noise outside of our venue is out of our control.

WiFi is available for free on our campsite and can easily be accessed upon request.

Parking availibility varies depending on your pitch. Generally speaking, tent pitches, B&B rooms & cottages, and glamping options come with parking for 1 car, so if you're planning to bring 2-or-more cars for one accommodation, you'll have to add another parking space to your booking so we can allocate it properly and keep the site safe. Meanwhile, motorhome and campervan pitches do not come with a parking space, so you'll have to add one if you're bringing a car as well as your mobile home.

Also, if you want an electric hookup, don't forget to add the option to your booking as well as choosing an optional electric hookup pitch.

      Camping In Norfolk FAQ!

I have never stayed at a campsite before - How does it work?

We recommend that you book your stay (the easiest way is on our campsite's website), then show up on the day. When you arrive at the campsite, head over to reception where someone will show you to your pitch. They'll give you a quick run-down of what's what and then leave you in peace!

When booking please also understand that site amenities (such as a shower block, toilets and washing-up area) are all provided for your convenience. After you’ve set up camp, head out and explore! If you have any questions or concerns while on the grounds, do not hesitate to settle them with our friendly staff.

      Do you allow dogs?

We absolutely love dogs and welcome well-behaved pups and responsible owners to our Campsite. We have a few rules though so please click here to take a look at our dog policy.

      Are there Toilets/Showers?

We provide flushable toilets, shower blocks and fresh water throughout your stay.

What is the best time of year to go camping?

The best time of year to go camping is typical during the summer months. This is when most campgrounds are open and the weather is usually the nicest. However, if you are planning on camping in a campervan or shepherd's hut, then you can often find great deals on campsites during the off-season.

Are you open all year round?

Our campsite is open all year round.

What do I need to bring with me when camping?

This is a great question! When you go camping, you should bring a tent, sleeping bag, camp stove, and food. You should also bring clothes for both warm and cold weather, as well as sturdy shoes. Finally, don't forget to pack a first-aid kit

Do you accept private hire of the campsite?

Yes, we do. We hire for weddings and events. Please contact us with your enquiry so that we can give you a personal quote as these vary from booking to booking.

      Our Nature Saving Pledge
      Clean camping in Norfolk

Norfolk Camping is all about spending time with your loved ones and reconnecting with nature. And we want nothing more than to share this wonderful part of Norfolk with you and all that nature has to enjoy.

Here at Norfolk Camping, we are committed to respecting the countryside and keeping it clean. We operate under and encourage a leave-no-trace ethos to all our guests, which means that when visiting the countryside you leave no trace of your visit in our Norfolk sites and leave it exactly in the state it was when you arrived. It's this way of thinking that we hope to imprint on all who pass through our corner of the world which will help to ensure the protection of our precious countryside and the wildlife that live here.

      The Countryside Code

The Countryside Code is supported by Natural England.

      Protect The Environment

      • Take your litter home – leave no trace of your visit
      • Do not light fires and only have BBQs where signs say you can
      • Always keep dogs under control and insight
      • Dog poo – bag it and bin it – any public waste bin will do
      • Care for nature – do not cause damage or disturbance
      • Enjoy The Outdoors
      • Check your route and local conditions
      • Plan your adventure – know what to expect and what you can do
      • Enjoy your visit, have fun, make a memory

      Leave No Trace

      • Plan ahead and prepare
      • Be Considerate of others
      • Respect Farm animals and wildlife
      • Travel and camp on durable ground
      • Leave what you find
      • Dispose of waste properly
      • Minimise the effects of fire
      The Seashore Code

      Show Respect For Seashore Creatures

Seashore creatures are fascinating and have found special ways of living in their environment. They have to adapt to survive the rigours of wave-action, exposure and predation. Some have shells for protection, but many need to hide under rocks, seaweed or in the sand.

Exploring The Seashore Is Fun, But Please Remember:

      • Leave animals where you find them.
      • Take care when touching soft-bodied animals - they are very delicate.
      • Carefully lift and replace any rocks you may have moved - there are animals underneath which need them for shelter.
      • Leave attached seaweed in place - there is plenty lying loose on the strand line.
      • Do not trample through rock pools.

      Take Photos, Not Living Animals

      • Shells come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Many still contain living animals, even if they do look 'dead'. If you want to collect shells, please make sure they are empty before taking them home.

If you want to buy a souvenir:

      • Buy a photograph, book or poster of colourful marine creatures rather than shells, coral, starfish and urchins or other 'marine curios'. Remember 'curios' would almost certainly have been alive, when collected. If we don't buy them, the shops won't sell them.

      Avoid Disturbing Wildlife

You can see many animals at their best when they are behaving naturally. This is true for animals such as seals, otters and seabirds, as well as rock pool animals. To avoid disturbing wildlife:

      • It is best to watch from a distance, through binoculars if possible, especially if the animals are nesting, or pupping in the case of seals.
      • Keep your dog clear of birds and other animals.
      • Remember, it is now illegal to disturb or harass many species of birds and animals.

Take Your Rubbish Home With You

Beach rubbish is unsightly and can be dangerous to sea creatures. Much of the litter on our shores comes from tourists, shipping, fishing vessels and sewage outfalls. You can help to reduce this problem when visiting the coast:

      • Take your rubbish home - burying it is no solution.
      • Keep your dog from fouling the beach.
      • Report canisters or drums that may be washed up on the beach, but do not touch them.
      • Take part in BeachWatch - the annual beach clean and survey organised by the Marine Conservation Society, or Adopt-a-Beach - a regular survey of beach litter.
      • Bag It and Bin It, Please Don't Flush It - bag and bin all plastic bathroom waste such as cotton bud sticks.

      Watch Where You Go

Beaches and sand dunes are prone to erosion and easily damaged by people and vehicles. To help protect the coast:

      • Keep to established paths and dune boardwalks.
      • Park in designated car parks and keep access to footpaths clear.
      • Do not use beaches or dunes for scrambling motorcycles or other 'off-road' vehicles.
      • If you dig holes in the beach, please fill them up again.
      • Leave pebbles and rocks on the beach rather than collect them for your garden.

      Be Careful!

All cliffs are unstable and potentially dangerous, yet they are an impressive sight and from the cliff top it is possible to enjoy a panoramic view of the coastline. Cliffs also provide a very specialised habitat for the plants and animals that live on them.

      Take Care Near Cliffs:

      • Remember that it is dangerous to climb up or go near the top or bottom of a cliff.
      • Please don't throw or push anything over the edge of cliffs. As well as being dangerous, it can increase the rate of cliff erosion and kill or disturb wildlife.
      • Play safe on the beach too: Check tide times to avoid being cut off. Keep away from soft sand and mud - it is easy to get stuck!

      Our Norfolk Sites

      camping in North Norfolk directions

Our location in North Norfolk is easily accessible, as it's central to a lot of great locations on the coast. Nearby bus stops have routes that go to Cromer, Sheringham, Wells-next-the-Sea, or Norwich if you want to go further inland. We're also a short drive away from the coast, with many good beaches nearby for you to relax and catch a tan. Plus, we're only a short walk away from Holt itself, where you can find some lovely shops, cafes, and restaurants.

      Covid-19

Covid-19 has meant we have had to put in place precautions which include social distancing and we ask that you follow the rules and guidance on meeting up which includes that only up to six from multiple households can meet up outdoors and indoors (in your tent or vehicle) only two households can meet up, maintaining social distancing at all times.

Effectively we believe that in this guidance means that you cannot share your tent or vehicle with people who you do not already live with.
