Chris the Coast Walker
"I’m going to walk almost 11000 miles of coastline around mainland Britain, surviving with minimal kit, and relying on the kindness of strangers. I’m leaving my family at home to complete a perimeter circuit of Britain. Getting home to my family is my motivation to do it as quickly as I can"
Chis the Coast Walker started his epic journey with us here in North Norfolk, from those very first few steps along our Beach, Chris has now almost completed 11 000 miles of UK coastline, hoping to return to South Beach, Heacham in the next few days.
"I must walk the entire distance, I will use bridges or inroads where crossing points dictate, I will navigate by OS map, GPS and the stars. I’m heading clockwise from North Norfolk so really I just have to keep the sea on my left"
During the First lockdown, Chris (like many of us) was lucky enough to be able to spend every day with his 3 daughters, in his happy, healthy, normal(ish!) home. Many many children in the Uk do not have the same experience of family life as Chris and his children, many are living below the poverty line and/or have been subject to deprivation and physical abuse. On this epic adventure, Chris is raising money for Children in Need, this organisation supports so many other organisations in the UK that directly help children facing a range of disadvantages in life. Throughout the global pandemic, they’re continuing to provide support to those that need it most.

11000 miles, what an epic adventure around our incredible coastline
"For the first time on my journey I’ve been able to see Norfolk & home again, the land across the wash from Skegness is where I started 421 days ago now… it’s not far away, just 16 miles across the water but I have to walk the river up to Boston.… I’m almost at a point where I could get a bus or train home every night and the temptation is huge"
As Chris's adventure comes to an end, we look forward to welcoming him back to us here on the Norfolk Coast. Please take the time to view his Just Giving Page and give what you can, just £2 can provide breakfast or lunch for a hungry child. You can look back on Chris's adventure on his Facebook Page and check out all the amazing photos he has taken of our incredible Coast Line.
